Sermon Study: The Real Jesus - Finding True Satisfaction in the Bread of Life
Scripture Focus
John 6
This week, we explored John 6, where Jesus feeds the five thousand and then declares, “I am the Bread of Life.” While the crowd followed Jesus because of what He could provide, Jesus gently but firmly redirected them toward something deeper—a relationship with Him. The passage invites us to examine not only what we believe about Jesus, but how we approach Him.
Key Points
When Jesus steps in, impossibility steps aside. The miracle of the loaves and fishes shows us that Jesus has authority over lack and limitation.
Jesus has authority—but also desires intimacy. Our relationship with God is not transactional (what can I get?), but relational (I want to be with You).
The way you see God shapes the way you approach Him. Do we see Jesus as a provider only, or as the one who truly satisfies?
Don’t confuse doing things for God with desiring God. Like the Pharisees, we can be busy with religious activity and still miss God Himself (Matthew 15:8–9).
Worship flows from desire, not demand. The crowd wanted the bread, not the Bread of Life. Gratitude does not grow from abundance, it grows from surrender.
God is not waiting to do more for you; He’s waiting for more OF you. Jesus calls us to full surrender, not partial devotion.
Reflection
How do you currently see Jesus? What does your image of Him say about your faith?
Is your prayer life rooted in dependency and relationship or primarily in requests?
Where might you be asking God for more, when He’s actually asking you to give something up to create space for Him?
What would it look like in your life to desire God Himself, not just what He can do?
Practical Responses:
Audit your prayer life: notice your posture toward God.
Create space to see God rightly and worship Him fully.
Ask God to lovingly reveal areas where He is not “enough” in your life.

Closing Prayer
Jesus, You are the Bread of Life, the only one who truly satisfies. Forgive me for the times I’ve pursued Your blessings more than Your presence. Teach me to desire You fully, to surrender completely, and to worship You from a place of love, not expectation. Shape my heart, deepen my trust, and draw me closer to You. Amen.
