Follow Jesus
-
Scripture Focus: Jesus calls Peter, Andrew, James, and John to leave their nets and follow Him.
Reflection:
Jesus didn’t call the most educated or the most influential—He called ordinary fishermen. Their lives were radically changed when they dropped their nets and followed Him. Following Jesus always involves leaving something behind in order to step into something greater.Application:
What “nets” (comforts, habits, or distractions) might Jesus be asking you to lay down so you can follow Him more fully?Prayer:
Lord, give me the courage to leave behind whatever holds me back from You. Help me to trust Your call and step forward in obedience.Sept 2– Matthew 5:1–20
Scripture Focus: Jesus begins the Sermon on the Mount, teaching the Beatitudes and the call to be salt and light.
Reflection:
Jesus describes the blessed life—not through wealth or power, but through humility, mercy, and righteousness. He then calls His followers to shine as salt and light in the world. Following Jesus means living differently so others can see His love through us.Application:
How can you bring the light of Jesus into your workplace, home, or friendships this week?Prayer:
Jesus, help me live in a way that reflects Your heart. Make me a light in the darkness and salt that brings life and hope to others.Sept 3 – Luke 5:1–11
Scripture Focus: After a miraculous catch of fish, Peter falls to his knees, and Jesus calls him to become a fisher of men.
Reflection:
Peter went from an empty net to an overflowing one when he trusted Jesus’ word. This miracle revealed both Peter’s unworthiness and Jesus’ power. Yet Jesus didn’t push Peter away—He invited him into a greater mission.Application:
Where is Jesus asking you to trust Him even when it doesn’t make sense? How can you step into His mission today?Prayer:
Lord, even when I feel unworthy, thank You for calling me. Help me trust Your word and live on mission to bring others to You.Sept 4 – Mark 1:16–39
Scripture Focus: Jesus calls His first disciples, teaches with authority, heals the sick, and drives out demons.
Reflection:
From the start, Jesus shows that following Him means more than watching—it means participating in His kingdom work. The disciples didn’t just see miracles; they joined Jesus in ministry. Following Him means stepping into action.Application:
What is one way you can actively serve Jesus this week—whether through prayer, kindness, or helping someone in need?Prayer:
Jesus, I don’t just want to be a spectator. Help me step into Your work with boldness and compassion.Sept 5 – John 1:35–51
Scripture Focus: John the Baptist’s disciples follow Jesus, and He calls Philip and Nathanael to come and see.
Reflection:
Jesus’ invitation was simple: “Come and see.” He didn’t give a lecture or a rulebook—He invited people into relationship with Him. Following Jesus is a daily journey of discovering who He is.Application:
How can you extend that same invitation—“come and see”—to someone else this week?Prayer:
Lord, thank You for inviting me to walk with You. Help me draw closer to You each day and invite others to experience the same joy.Sept 6-7: Psalm 1-5, Proverbs 1-2
-
Sept 8 – Matthew 5:21–48
Scripture Focus: Jesus deepens the law by teaching about anger, lust, divorce, oaths, retaliation, and love for enemies.
Reflection:
Jesus shows that righteousness isn’t just about outward actions—it’s about the condition of the heart. Anger, bitterness, and hatred matter as much as murder; lust matters as much as adultery. His standard isn’t about checking boxes but becoming transformed from the inside out.Application:
Where do you notice anger, resentment, or bitterness in your life? How can you surrender that to Jesus today and choose love instead?Prayer:
Lord, purify my heart. Help me not just avoid sin outwardly, but allow You to transform my thoughts, motives, and attitudes so I can love like You.Sept 9 – Matthew 6:1–18
Scripture Focus: Jesus teaches about giving, prayer, fasting, and living for God’s approval rather than people’s praise.
Reflection:
Spiritual practices are not performances—they’re acts of love toward God. Jesus reminds us that the Father sees what is done in secret. The Lord’s Prayer also shows us how to pray with humility, dependence, and worship.Application:
What’s one area where you’ve been tempted to seek human approval over God’s? How can you practice prayer, giving, or fasting this week with the right heart?Prayer:
Father, keep me from living for the approval of others. Teach me to pray simply, give generously, and fast sincerely—with my eyes fixed on You.Sept 10– Matthew 6:19–34
Scripture Focus: Jesus warns against storing treasures on earth and calls us to seek first God’s kingdom.
Reflection:
Our hearts follow what we treasure. If our security is in wealth, possessions, or comfort, worry will rule our lives. But when we seek God’s kingdom first, He promises to provide what we truly need.Application:
Where are you tempted to find security outside of God? How can you prioritize His kingdom in your time, finances, or focus this week?Prayer:
Lord, help me treasure You above all else. Teach me to seek first Your kingdom and trust You with every need.Sept 11– Matthew 7:1–14
Scripture Focus: Jesus teaches about judgment, prayer, the Golden Rule, and the narrow way.
Reflection:
It’s easy to spot flaws in others while ignoring our own. Jesus calls us to humility, prayerful dependence, and treating others with the same love we desire. Following Him may be the narrow way, but it leads to life.Application:
Is there someone you’ve been quick to judge? How can you extend grace and kindness instead?Prayer:
Lord, remove the plank from my own eye before I point out the speck in someone else’s. Help me walk the narrow way with humility, prayer, and love.Sept 12 – Matthew 7:15–29
Scripture Focus: Jesus warns about false prophets, explains that true disciples bear fruit, and compares wise and foolish builders.
Reflection:
It’s not enough to hear Jesus’ words—we must put them into practice. True discipleship produces fruit: love, obedience, and faithfulness. Building our lives on His teaching is what gives us stability when storms come.Application:
Are you building on sand (comfort, success, self) or on the solid rock of Jesus’ Word? What’s one way you can put His teaching into action this week?Prayer:
Jesus, I don’t want to just hear Your words—I want to live them. Build my life on Your truth so that I stand strong no matter what comes.Sept 13-14: Psalm 6-11, Proverbs 3-4
-
Sept 15 – Mark 2
Scripture Focus: Jesus heals the paralyzed man, calls Levi, and teaches about new wine in new wineskins.
Reflection:
Jesus demonstrates both His authority to forgive sins and His compassion to heal. The paralyzed man was carried by friends who believed Jesus could make a difference. Sometimes our faith carries others closer to Jesus, and sometimes others carry us. Jesus also reminds us that following Him means embracing new life, not clinging to old patterns.Application:
Who in your life needs you to “carry them” to Jesus in prayer? What old patterns might you need to let go of so you can fully embrace the new?Prayer:
Lord, thank You for forgiving and healing me. Help me bring others to You in prayer and live fully in the new life You’ve given me.sept 16 – Mark 4
Scripture Focus: Jesus teaches through parables—the sower, the lamp, the growing seed, the mustard seed—and calms the storm.
Reflection:
God’s kingdom grows in ways we can’t always see. Even the smallest seed of faith can grow into something powerful. When the disciples panicked in the storm, Jesus revealed His authority over creation. He invites us to trust Him not only with growth but also with peace in the storm.Application:
Where do you need to trust God with small beginnings or unseen growth? Where do you need His peace in a storm?Prayer:
Jesus, thank You that Your Word brings life and growth. Strengthen my faith to trust You in small things and rest in Your peace in every storm.Sept 17 – Mark 5
Scripture Focus: Jesus delivers a man from many demons, heals a woman who touched His cloak, and raises Jairus’ daughter.
Reflection:
Each story shows Jesus’ power over hopeless situations—spiritual bondage, chronic illness, and even death. No one was too far gone for Him. Each person encountered Jesus personally and left transformed.Application:
Is there an area of your life that feels hopeless or out of control? Bring it to Jesus today, trusting His power to bring healing and restoration.Prayer:
Lord, thank You that nothing is too hard for You. I bring my struggles, fears, and needs to You. Bring healing and hope where I need it most.Sept 18 – Mark 6
Scripture Focus: Jesus sends out the Twelve, feeds the 5,000, walks on water, and heals many.
Reflection:
Jesus empowers His followers to join in His mission. He provides when resources seem too small. He calms fears by revealing His presence. And He continues to meet the needs of the crowd. Following Jesus means stepping out in faith, trusting His provision, and relying on His presence.Application:
Where do you feel unequipped or under-resourced right now? Ask Jesus to provide what you need and step forward in faith anyway.Prayer:
Jesus, You are more than enough. Provide what I lack and give me courage to trust You in every step of obedience.Sept 19 – Mark 10:13–45
Scripture Focus: Jesus blesses the children, speaks with the rich young ruler, and teaches that greatness comes through serving.
Reflection:
Jesus shows us that the kingdom belongs to those who come with childlike faith. He warns against holding too tightly to wealth or possessions. And He redefines greatness—not in terms of power, but through humility and service.Application:
How can you practice childlike trust in God this week? What’s one practical way you can serve someone else with humility?Prayer:
Lord, help me loosen my grip on things that compete for my heart. Teach me to trust You like a child and serve others like You served me. -
Sept 22 – John 10
Scripture Focus: Jesus is the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep.
Reflection:
Jesus knows His sheep by name, and His sheep know His voice. Unlike a hired hand, He protects, guides, and gives His life for His flock. Abiding in Christ means trusting His voice and following His lead, even when other voices compete for our attention.Application:
What voices or influences compete with Jesus’ voice in your life? How can you intentionally listen for Him this week?Prayer:
Good Shepherd, thank You for knowing me by name and leading me with love. Teach me to hear Your voice clearly and follow You faithfully.Sept 23 – John 13
Scripture Focus: Jesus washes the disciples’ feet and gives the new command: love one another.
Reflection:
Jesus demonstrates that true greatness is found in humble service. By washing His disciples’ feet, He showed that love is not just words but action. Abiding in Christ means reflecting His love through humility and service to others.Application:
Who can you serve in a practical way this week? How can you show love through action, not just words?Prayer:
Lord, help me follow Your example of humility. Teach me to love others as You have loved me—through service, sacrifice, and compassion.Sept 24– John 14
Scripture Focus: Jesus comforts His disciples, promises the Holy Spirit, and declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
Reflection:
Jesus reassures His disciples that though He is going away, He will not leave them alone. The Holy Spirit is given as our Helper, Teacher, and Comforter. Abiding in Christ means living with the assurance of His presence through the Spirit.Application:
Where do you need the Spirit’s comfort or guidance today? Pause and ask Him to fill and lead you.Prayer:
Holy Spirit, thank You for being my Helper. Guide me in truth, comfort me in difficulty, and draw me closer to Jesus every day.Sept 25 – John 15
Scripture Focus: Jesus is the true Vine, and His followers are called to remain in Him and bear fruit.
Reflection:
Apart from Christ, we can do nothing. Abiding in Him is the only way to experience lasting fruit in our lives—love, joy, peace, and influence for God’s kingdom. Remaining in Him means staying connected through prayer, obedience, and trust.Application:
What practices help you stay connected to Jesus daily? Which ones do you need to strengthen?Prayer:
Lord, keep me rooted in You. Help me remain in Your love so that my life produces fruit that glorifies You.Sept 26 – John 17
Scripture Focus: Jesus prays for Himself, His disciples, and all future believers.
Reflection:
This chapter reveals Jesus’ heart for unity, holiness, and mission. He prays for His followers to be protected, sanctified by truth, and united so the world may believe. Abiding in Christ means being part of His prayer—living in unity and shining His glory.Application:
How can you pursue unity with other believers this week? Where can you live in a way that reflects Jesus’ prayer for His church?Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for praying for me. Make me one with Your people and use my life to point others to You.Sept 27-28: Proverbs 7–8, Psalm 17-22
Reflection: When Jesus called Matthew, a tax collector despised by society, He demonstrated that no one is beyond His love and grace. Jesus doesn’t wait for us to be perfect before He invites us—He meets us right where we are and transforms us through His mercy.
Application: Think of someone you might consider “unlikely” for God’s call. Pray for them today and extend grace toward them as Christ has done for you.
Prayer: “Jesus, thank You for calling me despite my flaws. Help me see others the way You see them and extend the same grace and love that You have given me.”
Reflection: Jesus makes it clear that following Him means surrendering our own desires and carrying our cross daily. True life is not found in gaining the world, but in laying it down for the sake of Christ.
Application: Identify one area of your life where you have been holding back from God. Take a practical step today to surrender that area—whether it’s time, resources, or a personal ambition.
Prayer:“Lord, I lay down my own plans and ambitions to follow You fully. Give me strength to take up my cross daily and live for what truly matters—Your kingdom and glory.”
